Automatically Create Companies from Business Names

Company automation uses the Business Name field on your contacts to create companies and link contacts to them automatically.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Settings > Objects > Company.
  2. Check Automatically create and associate companies from contact business names.
  3. Save.
When you save, every contact with a Business Name gets linked to a company with the same name. If that company doesn't exist yet, it's created. New and updated contacts are linked the same way from then on.

How names are matched

  • Matching ignores upper and lower case, so "Acme Inc" and "ACME INC" are the same company.
  • Spelling must match exactly. "Acme Inc" and "Acme Inc." create two different companies.
Clean up business names before you turn this on so you don't end up with duplicates. If duplicates appear, merge the companies.

Good to know

  • Contacts without a Business Name aren't linked.
  • Changing a contact's Business Name links the contact to the matching company.
  • Turning the setting off stops new links. Existing companies and links stay.
