Importing Contacts
You can add or update many contacts at once by importing a CSV file. Only admin users can import.
Prepare your file
- Save the file as .csv with a single sheet.
- Keep it under 30 MB.
- Include a header row. Each column header should match a standard or custom field so it's easy to map.
- To create contacts, each row needs at least a name, phone, or email.
- To update contacts, each row needs the Contact ID, email, or phone, depending on your duplicate contact settings.
A new-contact import can be reverted later. Updates to existing contacts can't be undone, so double-check the file first.
Format your fields
- Dates: use mm/dd/yyyy, yyyy/mm/dd, mm-dd-yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd.
- Multiple options, checkboxes, and lists: separate values with commas, for example
Value 1, Value 2. - Phone numbers: include the country code, for example +1 for the US.
- Tags: put several tags in one column separated by commas.
Choose an import option
- Create contacts: adds only new records.
- Update contacts: changes only existing records.
- Create and update: adds new records and updates existing ones in a single pass.
Import the file
- Go to Contacts and click Import.
- Upload your CSV.
- Choose create, update, or create and update.
- Map each column to a FunnelStreams field. Create a custom field on the spot if you need one, or choose Don't import for columns you want to leave out.
- Optionally add tags to every imported contact, or add them to a workflow.
- Click Import. You can track progress and download any failed rows from the import history.
Fix common errors
- Missing required field: the row has no name, phone, or email. Fill one in and re-import the failed rows.
- Invalid date or phone: check the formats above.
- Duplicate found: the contact already exists. Use Create and update if you want to change the existing record.
- File too large: split it into smaller files.
Download the error file after an import, correct the rows, and import only those rows again.
