Custom Object Associations
Associations connect records of different types and name the relationship. You can link contacts to custom object records, or custom objects to each other. All associations are many-to-many, so a record can link to many others.
Create an association
- Go to Settings > Objects (custom objects) and select an object.
- Open the Associations tab.
- Click Create Association.
- Choose the other object.
- Choose a single label, such as Owner, or a pair of labels, such as Buyer and Seller.
- Check the preview and click Save.
You can create up to 10 labels between any two objects.
Edit or delete an association
On the Associations tab, click the three-dot menu next to an association.
- Edit changes the label name. The internal name can't be changed.
- Delete removes the association and the links that use it.
Link records
- Open a record.
- Find the associations section.
- Click Add, choose the label, and search for the record.
- Save.
You can use more than one label between the same two records, for example a contact who is both Owner and Tenant of a property.
Tips
Plan your labels before you build workflows on them. Clear names like "Listed By" read better on records than generic ones.
