Creating and Editing Custom Objects
A custom object is a new type of record with its own fields. Use one when you need to track something that isn't a contact or an opportunity, like properties, pets, cases, or vehicles.
Create a custom object
- Go to Settings > Objects.
- Click Add Custom Object.
- Enter the singular and plural names, such as Property and Properties.
- Choose the primary field, which is shown as the record's name.
- Save.
Add fields
Open the object and add fields such as text, number, dropdown, date, or phone. Group related fields into folders.
Unique fields
You can make some fields unique so the same value can't be used twice, such as a VIN.
- Single line text, multi-line text, number, and phone can be unique.
- Each object can have up to 10 unique fields.
- Uniqueness applies everywhere, including forms, workflows, and imports.
- If you turn a unique field back to non-unique, you can't make it unique again.
Associations
Link the object to contacts, opportunities, or other objects. You can have up to 10 labels between any two objects.
Where custom objects work
Custom objects work with contacts and opportunities, workflow triggers and actions, forms, surveys, quizzes, Smart Lists, list views, and advanced filters. They can't yet be used in email campaigns, bulk SMS, Conversations, or as dynamic data on websites.
Edit an object
Open the object from Settings > Objects to rename it, add or change fields, or update associations.
