Custom Objects Guide
Custom objects let your CRM match how your business really works. They hold records for things that aren't people or companies, such as properties, pets, projects, subscriptions, or policies.
Each custom object has its own records and fields, can link to other records, and works with automations and reporting.
When to use a custom object
Use one when:
- You track assets, listings, or items.
- You need the same structured details for every record.
- You need to link several types of records together, such as a property to a buyer and an agent.
When to use standard records
Stick with contacts, companies, and opportunities when you're tracking a person, a business, or a deal. Custom fields on those records are enough when you only need a few extra details and there's only ever one of them per contact.
Common examples
- Real estate: properties linked to buyers and sellers.
- Pet services: pets linked to owners.
- Insurance: policies linked to policyholders.
- Agencies and consultants: projects linked to clients.
- Automotive: vehicles linked to owners and service visits.
Create a custom object
- Go to Settings > Objects.
- Click Add Custom Object.
- Enter the singular and plural names and choose the primary field.
- Save, then add the fields you need.
See Creating and Editing Custom Objects for fields, unique fields, and associations.
