Resend to Unopened: Best Practices
Resending a campaign to contacts who didn't open it can noticeably lift your results. Done badly, it can also cause complaints and unsubscribes.
Goals
- Increase engagement with your campaigns.
- Avoid extra complaints and unsubscribes.
Before you resend
- Timing: resend within about a day of the original send.
- Choose carefully: resend your most important emails, such as launches, deadlines and big offers, not every newsletter.
- Change the subject line: a fresh subject gives people a new reason to open.
- Resend once: don't resend the same email more than once.
- Watch your numbers: if complaints or unsubscribes rise, resend less often.
How to resend
- Set up an automatic resend while scheduling the campaign, or
- After sending, open the campaign's three-dot menu and choose Resend to unopened, then set the new subject line and time.
Some email apps and privacy features open emails automatically, so "unopened" lists aren't perfect. Keep resends occasional.
