Dynamic Countdown Timers

What it is

A Dynamic countdown timer creates a personal deadline for each contact. Instead of one shared end time, each person's countdown starts from their own trigger.

Triggers

  • Email Sent: the countdown starts when the email is sent to the contact.
  • Email Opened: the countdown starts when the contact opens the email.

Duration and end time

Duration sets how long the countdown runs.
  • Duration only (Set End Time off): the timer ends exactly that long after the trigger. With a 2-hour duration and the Email Opened trigger, someone who opens at 2:00 PM sees it end at 4:00 PM. Someone who opens at 5:00 PM sees it end at 7:00 PM.
  • Duration with Ends at Time (Set End Time on): the deadline lines up with a time of day you choose, such as 11:00 PM, so offers end at a predictable time.

Time zones

Turn on Adapt to Contact Time Zone to base deadlines on each contact's time zone. If a contact has no time zone, the timer uses the one you selected.

Set it up

  1. Go to Marketing → Countdown Timers and click + New.
  2. Choose a template and click Continue with this template.
  3. Choose Dynamic as the timer type.
  4. Pick the trigger, set the duration and, if you want, an end time.
  5. Add the Active link (where people go while the timer runs) and the Expired link (where they go after).
  6. Style the timer and save.
  7. Add it to your email with the countdown timer element.

Good to know

Dynamic timers are designed for emails. Test by sending the email to yourself before your campaign goes out.
