Creating and Managing Opportunity Pipelines
A pipeline is the path a deal follows, split into stages. A simple sales pipeline might be Lead Received, Initial Contact, Meeting Scheduled, Proposal Sent, and Closed. Every opportunity sits in one stage, so you can see where each deal stands and where deals get stuck.
Open your pipelines
Go to Opportunities and click the Pipelines tab. From here you can view, create, edit, and delete pipelines.
Create a pipeline
- Click Create new pipeline.
- Name it, such as Sales or Client Onboarding.
- Add a stage for each step, in order.
- Click Save.
Edit stages
- Click Edit on the pipeline.
- Rename stages, add new ones, or drag them into a new order.
- Delete stages you no longer use. Move any opportunities out of a stage before deleting it.
- Save.
Visibility settings
Each stage has options for whether it appears in the funnel chart and pie chart reports. Turn off stages that shouldn't count in conversion reports, such as an On Hold stage.
Tips
- Keep stages few and clear, usually five to seven.
- Name stages after something that happened, such as Proposal Sent, so everyone moves deals the same way.
- Use a separate pipeline for each distinct process, such as sales and onboarding.
