Set Up an Authenticator App for Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a second code when you log in. With an authenticator app, the code comes from your phone, so you don't have to wait for an email or text.
Any time-based code (TOTP) app works, including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.

Set it up

  1. Go to Settings > My Profile > Security.
  2. In Two-Factor Authentication, open the authenticator app setup.
  3. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code, or type in the setup key.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and confirm.
  5. Save your backup codes somewhere safe, such as a password manager.

Logging in

After you enter your email and password, open your authenticator app and type the current code. Codes change every 30 seconds.

Important notes

  • Each backup code works once. Use one if you lose your phone.
  • If your backup codes are lost or exposed, create new ones from the Security page.
  • Getting a new phone? Move your authenticator accounts to it, or set up 2FA again, before you wipe the old phone.
  • If codes are rejected, check that your phone's time is set automatically.
