Why a WhatsApp Display Name Is Declined
Your WhatsApp display name is the business name customers see. Meta reviews and approves it. If it's declined, work out why, fix it, and resubmit.
Why names are declined
- Too generic, like a product category
- Only a place name
- Doesn't clearly match your business
- Uses words like "Official" or "Verified"
- Includes Meta product names like WhatsApp, Facebook, or Messenger
- Includes restricted or prohibited products or services
- Has slogans, emojis, odd capitalization, or fancy characters
- Isn't clearly linked to your business or its website and other assets
Fix it
- Make sure the name clearly relates to your business, product, service, or department.
- Remove slogans, promotional wording, emojis, extra capitals, and decorative characters.
- Remove "Official" and "Verified".
- Leave out restricted products or services.
- Don't add spaces inside a one-word brand.
- Resubmit.
For example, if your legal name is "Owner Connector Solutions Ltd", "Owner Connector" or "OwnerConnector Solutions" keeps the link to your business clear.
| Do | Avoid | | --- | --- | | Clearly represent your business, product, service, or department | Generic words like "Fashion" | | Use a name tied to your business | Place names only, like "New York" | | Use a business-linked name for test accounts | "Official" or "Verified" | | Keep it clear and professional | WhatsApp, Facebook, or Messenger | | Follow WhatsApp Business and Commerce policies | Restricted products or services |
Change your display name
- Sign in to Meta Business Manager, pick your business, and open WhatsApp Manager.
- Open Phone numbers and select the number.
- In the profile details, find Display name and enter the new name.
- Click Next or Submit.
Meta then reviews the new name. Official business accounts follow a different process.
