Split Test Funnel Pages
A split test (A/B test) sends some visitors to your original page, called the control, and some to a new version, called the variation. You can then see which one converts better.
Split tests are available for funnel steps. Websites don't support them.
Before you start
- Add a domain to your funnel. Split testing only works once the funnel has a domain.
- Make the variation clearly different, such as a new headline or offer, so you get a useful result.
- Don't edit the control while the test runs, or the results won't be reliable.
Create a split test
- Go to Sites > Funnels and open the funnel.
- Pick the step you want to test and click Create Variation.
- Choose one of the options to create the variation.
- Move the slider to choose how much traffic goes to the control and how much to the variation.
- Click Start Split Test, then Apply to confirm.
All visitors go to your step's usual URL, then they're split between the control and the variation according to the slider. Each has its own URL path, which you can change with the gear icon below it.
Split tests use a browser cookie, so a returning visitor keeps seeing the same version.
See the results
As visitors arrive, results start to fill in for both versions. Click the Stats tab above the steps, then the step you're testing, to see detailed numbers.
When there's a clear winner, end the test and keep the better page.
Ideas to test
- Online course: two headlines, like "Learn Spanish in Just 30 Days" vs "Unlock the Secrets to Mastering Spanish Fast".
- Webinar sign-up: two headlines or registration layouts.
- Checkout: a one-page checkout vs a multi-step checkout, or different trust badges.
- Lead magnet: two cover images or opt-in form designs.
Tips
- Test one big change at a time so you know what made the difference.
- Let the test run until each version has plenty of visitors before you decide.
