Personalize Pages with URL Parameters
URL parameters are name and value pairs at the end of a link, like
?city=Austin. You can show those values on your page to personalize it. For example, open https://example.com/offer?city=Austin and a heading can read "Great deals in Austin".Where you can use them
URL parameters work in funnels, websites, stores, and webinars, in button text, button sub-text, headings, and paragraphs.
Add a URL parameter
- Open the page in the builder and edit a heading, paragraph, or button.
- Open the Custom Value picker and choose URL Parameter.
- Enter the parameter name, such as
city. - Optional: add a default value and choose a text format.
- Insert it into the text.
- Save and publish.
- Test by opening the page with the parameter in the URL, such as
?city=Austin.
Default values
The default shows when the parameter is missing (no
city in the URL) or empty (?city=). Each parameter you insert has its own default. For example, a default of "your area" reads "Great deals in your area".Text formats
| Format | Example | | --- | --- | | UPPERCASE | DALLAS NOW | | lowercase | dallas now | | Title Case | Dallas Now | | Sentence case | Dallas now |
Hyphens and underscores in the value become spaces, so
dallas-now shows as "dallas now". Parameter names aren't case-sensitive, so City and city match.Pass values in your links
You can add a fixed value to a link:
https://example.com/page?city=AustinOr use a merge field so each contact gets their own value, for example in an email:
https://example.com/page?first_name={{contact.first_name}}On the page, add a URL parameter named
first_name where you want the name to appear. If it doesn't work
- Check the name in the URL matches the name you set on the page.
- Check the parameter has a value.
- Make sure you published the page after adding the parameter.
