Add Domains to Your WordPress Site
Add a domain to your hosted WordPress site so visitors can reach it at your own address. You can add up to 5 domains or subdomains and pick one as the primary domain.
Go to Sites > WordPress, open your site's dashboard, and find the domain section.
Add your primary domain
Step 1: Add the domain
- Click Add domain or sub-domain.
- Enter your domain. The system checks it isn't already used by another account.
Step 2: Set up SSL
- Copy the TXT records shown.
- Add them at your DNS provider.
- Wait for them to verify. Most SSL records work within an hour, but it can take up to 48 hours.
Step 3: Update DNS
- Copy the CNAME and A records shown.
- Add them at your DNS provider.
- Tick the box to confirm you've added the records, then click Verify DNS Records.
- Your first domain becomes the primary domain. You can change this in the dashboard.
Tips for DNS:
- If you use Cloudflare, turn the proxy off and set the records to DNS only.
- Set the TTL as low as your provider allows, such as 600, so changes take effect faster.
- If your domain is with GoDaddy, enter your domain name in the Name field instead of
@.
Add more domains or subdomains
Follow the same steps. For a subdomain, add the CNAME and A records shown.
Extra domains aren't set as primary. You can make one primary at any time. Until DNS is verified, the domain shows an Unverified tag. Click DNS Settings to see the records to add.
Root and www domains
www.example.com and example.com use the same CNAME value by default. If you add example.com after you've added www.example.com, you'll see a note about how they work together. The domain dashboard
- SSL status: shows whether SSL is issued.
- DNS status: shows whether your records are verified.
- Primary domain: choose which domain is the main one.
- Change prefix: switch between www and non-www.
If you delete a domain and add it again, it can take a while to finish setting up.
Staging first
You can build and check your site on its staging address before you connect your own domain.
