External Tracking: Capture Forms from Other Websites
External Tracking is a small script you add to websites built outside FunnelStreams, such as WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, or custom sites. It tracks page views and automatically captures form submissions into your contacts, with no field setup needed.
What it captures
It finds forms on your page automatically, including:
- WordPress forms like Gravity Forms, WPForms, and Contact Form 7
- Custom HTML forms
- Forms from no-code website builders
Fields are matched to your contact fields by name, label, and custom fields. Anything it can't match is saved so you can use it later. Text, dropdowns, checkboxes, dates, and other field types all work.
Set it up
- Go to Settings > External Tracking and click Copy Script. The script is unique to your account.
- Paste it just before the closing
</body>tag of your website so it loads on every page. It looks like this:
``
<script src="https://link.yourdomain.com/js/external-tracking.js" data-tracking-id="tk_xxxxxxxx"></script> ``- Optional: if you can't add it site-wide, paste it into an HTML block inside the form itself.
- Submit a test entry on your form. Visitors see the form work as normal.
- Go to Sites > Forms > Submissions and filter by External Forms to see the entry.
- Open the contact to see the captured fields and activity.
Form requirements
Forms are captured when they:
- Use a real
<form>element - Have
nameattributes on their fields - Include an email field
- Have fields visible on the page
These aren't supported:
- Forms inside an iframe
- Popup widgets without a real form
- Third-party scripts that hide their fields
Automate follow-up
Two workflow triggers use External Tracking:
- Page View: when someone lands on a page with the script, even before they give their details.
- Form Submission: when a captured form is submitted.
Filter them by domain, page path, external form name, or UTM parameters.
