Launch a Website from a Template

Launching a website means finishing your pages, connecting a domain, assigning that domain to the site, and publishing.
Save keeps your changes in the builder. Publish puts the saved version live. You need both.

Before you start

Have ready:
  • Your text, images, navigation, and pages
  • The domain or subdomain you want to use
  • Login details for your domain provider, in case you need to add DNS records
  • Your homepage and page paths planned out
DNS changes can take a while to show up across the internet.

1. Get the website ready

  1. Go to Sites > Websites and create or open your website. To start from a template, click + New Website and choose From Templates.
  2. Update your text, images, colors, navigation, buttons, and forms.
  3. Check that menu links open the right pages.
  4. Check desktop and mobile layouts.
  5. Add page titles and meta descriptions.
  6. Preview each page and save.

2. Connect your domain

  1. Go to Settings > Domains & URL Redirects and click + Connect a domain. You can also start this from the domain selector in the website builder.
  2. Enter the domain or subdomain and click Continue.
  3. Follow the steps. Some providers connect automatically. Others ask you to add DNS records. Enter them exactly as shown.
  4. Wait until the domain shows as connected.

3. Assign the domain to your website

  1. Go back to Sites > Websites and open the website.
  2. In its settings, select the connected domain.
  3. Choose the path. Leave it as your homepage if visitors should land on the site straight from the domain, or use a path like /services.
  4. Save.

4. Publish and check

  1. In the builder, preview one last time.
  2. Click Save, then Publish.
  3. Publish every page visitors should see.
Open the site in a private or incognito window and check:
  • The right domain opens, over HTTPS.
  • The right homepage shows.
  • Links and buttons work.
  • Forms, calendars, popups, and checkouts work.
  • Desktop and mobile both look right.
  • Your latest changes are live.
  • No placeholder text, test details, or broken links are left.
