Migrate a WordPress Site to WordPress Hosting
There are two ways to move an existing WordPress site into your WordPress hosting. Pick the one that suits you.
| Situation | Best option | | --- | --- | | Quickest, easiest move | Migrator plugin | | You already have a .wpress file | Manual import | | Moving several sites | Migrator plugin |
Option 1: Migrator plugin (recommended)
- In your hosting dashboard, click Download Plugin to get the migrator plugin as a ZIP file.
- Log in to the WordPress site you want to move.
- Go to Plugins > Add New and click Upload Plugin.
- Upload the ZIP file and click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
- Open the migrator plugin from the WordPress sidebar. You may need to scroll down.
- Log in with your hosting login and pick the destination site.
- Click Continue and choose the target website.
- Confirm you understand the destination site's content will be replaced, then click Start Migration.
- Wait for it to finish. Large sites usually take 10 to 15 minutes. You can cancel any time before the last step.
- When you see Migration Completed, open and manage your site.
Option 2: Manual import with a .wpress file
Use this if you're comfortable with export files, or you already have a backup.
On the old site
- Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.
- Export the site to a
.wpressfile.
In your hosting dashboard
- Go to WordPress > Import Existing Website.
- Click Choose File and upload the
.wpressfile (up to 2 GB). - Wait for the upload and setup to finish.
Both options replace everything on the destination site, so pick an empty or test site, or take a backup first.
