Getting Started with the Flow-Based Builder for Voice AI

The Flow-Based Builder lets you design Voice AI calls on a visual canvas. Instead of one long prompt, you split the call across several focused agents and connect them with routers and actions.
For example: Greeter Agent > Qualification Agent > Booking Agent.

Prompt-based or flow-based?

  • Prompt-based: one agent and one prompt. Best for simple calls.
  • Flow-based: several agents, each with one job, plus routing and actions. Best for calls with clear stages or several paths.

Node types

| Node | What it does | | --- | --- | | Start Call | Where every call begins. | | AI Agent | Talks to the caller with its own instructions. | | Router | Sends the call down a path based on what the caller needs. | | Action | Does something, such as booking an appointment, updating a contact, or transferring the call. | | End Call | Ends the call politely. |

Action types

  1. Built-in actions: book appointments, update contact fields, send messages, transfer calls, and trigger workflows.
  2. Custom API: send and receive data from an outside service.

Get started

  1. Go to AI Agents > Voice AI.
  2. Click Create Agent and choose Flow-Based.
  3. Start with a template or a blank canvas.
  4. See How to Create and Configure Voice AI Flows for step-by-step setup.
