Troubleshoot Connecting Your Domain

If a domain won't connect, the error message usually points to the fix. Start here.

Before you change anything

  • Know where your DNS is managed. It may not be where you bought the domain.
  • Check that you're connecting the exact domain or subdomain you mean.
  • Copy DNS values exactly.
  • Remember that DNS changes can take up to 24 to 48 hours to verify.
Don't delete DNS records you don't recognize unless you're sure they aren't needed, especially email (MX and TXT) records.

Quick error reference

| Error | What it usually means | Fix | | --- | --- | --- | | A record conflict | Another A record points the same hostname somewhere else | Keep only the FunnelStreams A record | | AAAA record conflict | An IPv6 record exists for the hostname | Delete the AAAA records for it | | CAA record issue | Your domain only allows certain certificate providers | Add a CAA record that allows pki.goog | | DNS records don't match | The value at your provider is wrong or not updated yet | Recheck the value and wait for DNS to update | | Domain connected elsewhere | The hostname is used by another product or account | Remove it there or use another subdomain |

Multiple A records

  1. Log in to your DNS provider.
  2. Find all A records for the hostname. @ means the root domain.
  3. Delete every A record except the one with the FunnelStreams value.
  4. Save, then click Verify in Settings > Domains & URL Redirects.

AAAA records

FunnelStreams uses IPv4. Delete any AAAA records for the same hostname.

CAA records

CAA records limit who can issue security certificates for your domain. If you have any, add one more that allows Google Trust Services: type CAA, flag 0, tag issue, value pki.goog. If you have no CAA records at all, you don't need to add one.

DNS records don't match

  • Compare the record at your provider with the value shown in FunnelStreams, character by character.
  • Remove a trailing dot or the domain name that some providers add automatically.
  • Use a public DNS lookup tool to see what the internet sees.

Already connected elsewhere

A hostname can only be connected to one product. If it's on another funnel, website, or Client Portal, remove it there first, or use a different subdomain.

Cloudflare users

Set the record to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied.

Security certificate errors

After DNS checks out, the security certificate is created automatically and can take a few minutes. If you still see a privacy warning after an hour, check for leftover A, AAAA, or CAA conflicts.

404 errors

  • On the bare domain: go to Settings > Domains & URL Redirects, click Manage next to the domain, open the three-dot menu on the connected product, click Edit, and choose a Default Page.
  • On a path: make sure the funnel step or page uses that exact path.
