Best Practices for Periodic Opt-Out Texts and Sender ID
Why it matters
Carriers expect business texts to identify the sender and remind people how to opt out. Doing this protects your deliverability and builds trust.
- Sender ID: identify your business, for example "Acme Dental:" at the start of the message.
- Opt-out language: tell people how to stop messages, for example "Reply STOP to unsubscribe."
How it works
- The first outbound text in a conversation includes your sender info and opt-out language.
- Periodic Sender ID & Opt-Out Updates can add the same details again later in long conversations.
- Smart detection checks whether your message already contains opt-out or sender text, so it isn't added twice.
Turn periodic updates on or off
- Go to Settings → Phone System.
- Open Advanced Settings and find SMS Compliance.
- Check or clear the periodic sender ID and opt-out option.
- Save.
New sub-accounts start with sensible defaults. You can change the setting at any time.
Best practices
- Keep your business name short and consistent with your A2P brand.
- Don't remove opt-out language from marketing messages.
- Honor STOP requests immediately; contacts who opt out are marked DND for SMS automatically.
