Configure SMS Compliance Settings

What SMS compliance settings do

SMS compliance settings help your texts meet carrier and policy expectations by adding sender identification (your business name) and opt-out language (for example "Reply STOP to unsubscribe") when they're needed.

How they work

  1. First outbound message: the first text in a conversation automatically includes sender info and opt-out language. This happens even if periodic updates are off.
  2. Ongoing conversations: after the first message, the text isn't repeated unless you turn on Periodic Sender ID & Opt-Out Updates.
  3. Smart detection: before adding anything, the system checks whether your message already contains sender info or opt-out wording, so it isn't duplicated.

Configure the settings

  1. Go to Settings → Phone System → Phone Numbers.
  2. Click Advanced Settings.
  3. Find SMS Compliance.
  4. Choose your options:
  5. Add an opt-out message so the first message includes opt-out language.
  6. Add sender information so the first message identifies your business.
  7. Periodic Sender ID & Opt-Out Updates to repeat them in longer conversations.
  8. Customize the wording if needed, then save.

Tips

  • Use the same business name as your A2P brand or toll-free verification.
  • Keep the opt-out wording simple: "Reply STOP to opt out."
  • Leave these settings on for marketing messages. Turning them off can increase filtering and complaints.
