How to Get Your Number A2P Approved: Consent Checkbox Rules

Why consent wording matters

A2P 10DLC registration lets US carriers verify who's texting and that recipients agreed. Reviewers check your opt-in forms, surveys, quizzes, chat widgets and booking pages, so the consent setup on those must be right.

If the phone number field is required

Keep marketing and non-marketing consent separate

Use two separate checkboxes so people can agree to one, both or neither:
  1. *"I consent to receive marketing text messages from [Business Name] at the phone number provided. Frequency may vary. Message & data rates may apply. Text HELP for assistance, reply STOP to opt out."*
  2. *"I consent to receive non-marketing text messages from [Business Name] about [your use case, for example appointment reminders]. Message & data rates may apply. Text HELP for assistance, reply STOP to opt out."*
[Business Name] should match the name on your IRS CP 575 or 147C letter. If you text under a different brand name (DBA), say so clearly, for example "[Brand] is a DBA of [Legal Name]", and make the relationship clear on your website and in your Terms.

Never pre-select a checkbox

Consent boxes must start unchecked. The person has to tick them.

Consent is always optional

Even when the phone number is required, the consent checkboxes must not be required to submit the form.

If the phone number field is optional

You can use one consent checkbox, but it must still be unchecked by default, optional, and include the business name, message types, frequency, rates, HELP and STOP language.

Also check

  • Link your Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions below the checkboxes.
  • Use the same business name everywhere: form, website, policies and A2P brand.
