Identity Verification for Phone Number Purchases (US, CA, PR, IL)
What it is
Identity verification confirms the real person responsible for the account before certain phone numbers can be bought. It helps reduce fraud and spam. It's completed through a secure identity-verification partner (Persona).
It doesn't replace A2P 10DLC registration, toll-free verification, CNAM or SHAKEN/STIR. Those are separate.
When it's required
You're asked to verify only when all of these are true:
- You're buying a +1 number (United States, Canada or Puerto Rico) or a +972 number (Israel).
- The number is provided through the platform's own phone service.
- The account hasn't completed verification before.
This includes number pool purchases. After one successful verification, you won't be asked again for future eligible purchases.
How to complete it
- Start the number purchase. The verification step opens automatically when it's needed.
- Follow the prompts to photograph a government-issued photo ID and take a selfie.
- Make sure your name matches your account and business details.
- Submit and wait for the result, which is usually quick.
- Continue with your purchase.
You can also complete verification ahead of time. See KYC Verification Best Practices.
