International SMS Compliance: UK and Turkey
International SMS delivery depends on rules set by each country's regulators and carriers.
United Kingdom
UK carriers block A2P texts from international long codes, and UK long codes must be linked to an approved Regulatory Compliance bundle.
| Date | Requirement | | --- | --- | | June 1, 2023 | UK carriers began blocking international long-code A2P traffic | | May 27, 2024 | New UK long-code purchases need an approved compliance bundle | | July 30, 2024 | Full enforcement on international long-code traffic | | September 30, 2024 | All UK long codes must be linked to an approved bundle |
Sender options for the UK
- UK long code: two-way messaging. Requires KYC details and an approved bundle.
- Alphanumeric sender ID: one-way branded messages, where supported.
- Short code: high-volume programs with dedicated provisioning.
Texting UK contacts from a US number won't be delivered reliably. Use a UK sender.
Turkey
From April 1, 2026, Turkish carriers block international A2P texts that contain URLs, including links, shortened links and tracking links.
- Remove links from every template, workflow and campaign that can text Turkish recipients, including links inserted by custom values.
- Blocked messages may show error 30007, though that error has other causes too.
- Businesses with a local Turkish entity may be able to use a local sender instead.
Prepare
- Segment contacts by country and use the right sender for each.
- See Know Your Customer (KYC) in the United Kingdom for UK bundle details.
