A2P 10DLC Campaign Use Case Types

Why the use case matters

When you register a 10DLC campaign, you select a use case that describes the main purpose of your messages. Choosing the wrong one can cause filtering, lower throughput or suspension.

Standard use cases

  • Two-factor authentication (2FA): one-time passcodes and verification codes only.
  • Account notifications: updates about the customer's account.
  • Customer care: support conversations and account help.
  • Delivery notifications: shipping and delivery status.
  • Fraud alerts: notices about suspicious activity.
  • Security alerts: password changes, new device logins and similar events.
  • Higher education: messages from colleges and universities.
  • Marketing: promotions, offers, sales and announcements.
  • Polling and voting: surveys and polls (not political).
  • Public service announcements: awareness messages.
  • Mixed: a combination, such as customer care plus marketing.

Special use cases

Some use cases need extra vetting, such as agents and franchises (local agents representing a parent brand), emergency alerts, charity, political and sweepstakes.

How to choose

  1. List the messages you'll actually send.
  2. Match them to the definitions above.
  3. If you send several types, choose Mixed.
  4. Make sure your consent process fits. Marketing needs explicit opt-in.
  5. Have two or three sample messages ready that match the use case.
You can change the use case later, but the campaign must be reviewed again.
