Understanding Inbound Call Rate Limits

What inbound call rate limits do

Inbound call rate limits protect your phone system from abusive, automated or unusual call floods. The limit depends on how the number is set up. These are throughput limits measured in calls per minute, not a cap on concurrent calls.

Limits by number type

| Number type | From one number | To one number | When exceeded | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | IVR-connected | Not subject to these limits | Not subject to these limits | Doesn't apply | | Voice AI-connected | More than 200 calls/minute | More than 200 calls/minute | The call is blocked and a violation is recorded | | Regular number | More than 10 calls/minute | More than 15 calls/minute | The call is blocked and a violation is recorded |
"More than 200" means the rate must exceed 200 calls in a minute before the limit applies.
These limits are for inbound calls. Outbound and Voice AI outbound limits are different.

What to do if calls are blocked

  • Check for a spam or robocall flood and use Number Intelligence and DND to block it.
  • For legitimate high volume, connect the number to an IVR or Voice AI.
  • Spread campaigns that drive calls over time.
