What Is SHAKEN/STIR?
What it is
SHAKEN/STIR is a caller authentication framework that helps carriers confirm a caller is allowed to use the number shown.
- STIR: Secure Telephone Identity Revisited.
- SHAKEN: Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs.
When you place a call, a digital certificate signs it. The receiving carrier checks the signature and may show a "Caller Verified" indicator.
What it does and doesn't do
- Improves trust and can help answer rates.
- Doesn't remove "Spam Likely" labels by itself. Use Voice Integrity for that.
- Doesn't display your business name. Use CNAM for that.
Set it up
- Go to Settings → Phone System → Trust Center.
- Complete your business profile (an EIN is required).
- Register for SHAKEN/STIR and select your numbers.
- Submit and wait for approval.
