Why Doesn't My Business Name Show After CNAM Registration?
How CNAM works
When you place a call, only your number is sent. The receiving carrier decides whether to look up a name in a caller ID database and show it. CNAM is a legacy system, and carriers handle it differently.
Why the name may not show
- Mobile carriers often skip lookups or use their own databases and apps instead.
- Database updates take time, often days to weeks after registration.
- The recipient's phone or app may show a contact name, a spam label or nothing.
- Some carriers charge for lookups and only show names to subscribers who pay for caller ID.
- The number is ported or forwarded, and the lookup reaches an old record.
What you can do
- Wait a few weeks after registering, then test from several carriers.
- Confirm the registered name is correct in the Trust Center.
- Add SHAKEN/STIR and Voice Integrity to improve trust.
- Ask key customers to save your number as a contact.
CNAM doesn't prevent spam labels. It helps with name display where carriers support it.
