Create a Google Search Ad Campaign

Step 1: Create the campaign

  1. Go to Marketing → Ad Manager and click Create Campaign.
  2. Choose Google as the platform and click Next.
  3. Start from scratch or choose an Ad Manager template.

Step 2: Campaign settings

  1. Enter a campaign name.
  2. Choose your goal, such as Website traffic, Leads or Calls.
  3. Set your daily budget and bid strategy.
  4. Choose the locations and languages you want to target.
  5. Set start and end dates if needed.

Step 3: Keywords

Add the search terms you want your ad to show for. Ad Manager can suggest keywords from your website URL. Use match types to control how closely searches must match:
  • Broad match reaches the widest range of related searches.
  • Phrase match requires the meaning of your phrase.
  • Exact match targets that exact search or close variants.
Add negative keywords to block searches you don't want.

Step 4: Write your ad

  1. Enter the final URL people land on.
  2. Add up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions. Google mixes them to find the best combinations.
  3. Add assets such as sitelinks, callouts and a phone number if you have them.

Step 5: Review and publish

Check the summary and click Publish. Google reviews new ads, usually within a day. Results appear in Ad Manager once the ad starts running.
